The Neighborhood
Ron lived a block away and was always one of the big kids in the neighborhood. 3 years older , he was a senior when I was a freshman in high school. As we would watch Walter Cronkite every night with the news about Vietnam back then, it never hit home until Ron was killed. I was a junior then, and it all became very real. Ron was only the 1st of many from our small town high school to die over there. I eventually would enter the Navy and go in 70. I didn’t go to Vietnam, because my ship had just returned from the gun line.
There is now an area of highway commemorating Ron on the interstate near our home town. I am still in touch with his younger brother. Ron was loved by everyone that knew him.
