Thank You

Dear Soldier, I want to thank you for the great
sacrifice that you have paid for the freedom of every
American citizen. I am a student at Gridley High
School in Gridley Illinois and we are doing this as a
Gridley High School Posting Project for world history.
I on the other hand am doing this as much more than
just a student with another assignment that has to be
done. To me this means a lot more because I had an
uncle that was in the Vietnam War, and he about lost
his life in battle. I appreciate the actions that you
took in trying to keep our country safe and secure.
It is just a great feeling to know that we are being
protected by people like you that are willing to lay
it all down on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice
for this reason. I thank you again and may God Bless.

He was a leader of men and my friend.

David and his brother Fred were my childhood friends. David was super friendly, funny, very intelligent, caring of people and disciplined. He joined, I think, because he wished to make his family proud. He could have easily copped out with a 2-S status but chose to be a patriot. Due to his actions I later joined and remain a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
It turned out that friendly fire was his enemy in the chaos of that S.E. Asian War. May he be in heaven and putting in a good word for me. I shall never forget my friend cousin Dave.

My Brother

On the night of April 20, 1970, under NVA attack, he called in supporting fire onto his position. He stayed outside the bunker to direct the incoming fire. He was hit by his own artillery fire. His squad found him on top the bunker after the attack ceased. This was near An Loc in Tay Ninh province.
He was member of C co. 2nd/7th 1st Cav. Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Air Medal w/clusters

David is our son.

"WHY?"

Dear Mother, Dear Father, do not weep,
The Lord called, I am in His keep.
The night was dark, He reached for my hand,
I had to leave you from this far away land.

Nancy, my beloved, do not cry.
I didn't have time to say good-bye.
As time passes, find a new love,
The angels will watch over you from above.

Fred, my brother, help ease their sorrow,
Your wife, your children, for many tomorrows.
Fill their lives with happy days,
You will bring comfort in many ways.

Your hearts are sorrowful, they will mend,
I'll be awaiting you all at the roads end.
When you pass our graves, my uncle and I,
If you must speak, simply ask "WHY?"
