A Good comrade

I remember you in the winter of 62-63, You commanded a different platoon of B company 6th Marines. I was the corpsman with 1st platoon. I can't remember my lieutenant but you stood out as a good platoon commander and a fine marine. Rest in piece buddie. You did not die in vain. Thank you for your service.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear Captain Walter Jacob Egger, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

A Marine's Marine!

Walt,
your loss is felt by every Marine you served with.
The BEST platoon commander ever.
We shook hands for the last time that gray November day 1963.
You had the Third Herd assembled to see me off as I was returning to the real world.
B Company 1/6 was our home and to leave still aches to this day.
We were about the same age{22-24} which made us the old men of the platoon.

My FRIEND&FELLOW WARRIOR; hold the line and I'll be with you some day soon as the years have their way.

Semper Fi,

Jimmy "DocMarine" Gaines

If I should die...rememvbrances for CAPT. Walter Jacob EGGER, USMC...who made the ultimate sacrifice

If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.
