Thank You
Dear Captain Walter Egger,
Thank you for your service as an Infantry Officer. We remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

USS INDEPENDENCE CVA 62
I was LT Lawrence W Gregory in the Navy Dental Corp aboard the Carrier with Jack. In fact we were Compartment Partners. On liberty in Hong Kong, Jack was being fitted for a Formal Marine Uniform. He just made Captain and was he ever proud of it. It took several visits to the tailor and I went along on one of them. The Tailor in Kowloon treated us to a real Chinese meal. Jack and I would go on Liberty together so we would not get into trouble. We trusted each other. He was a big pipe smoker. Every month he received five canisters of tobacco from 5 Star in Columbus. I am sorry that I did not give him one of my pipes that he liked and requested from me. I still have that Pipe and Jack- it is Yours. He was a GOOD EXECUTIVE OFFICER for the Marine Detachment on the Carrier. I will remember him in my Prayers.
