Ground Casualty
SP4 Larry A. Diefenbach was an infantryman assigned to B Company, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry, 11th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division. On January 5, 1968, his unit was on a combat patrol approximately 6 miles southeast of Duc Pho, Quang Ngai Province, RVN. While traversing an area near a rice paddy, SP4 Diefenbach fell into the paddy. Another soldier extended the muzzle of his M16 rifle to assist him out of the rice paddy at which point the weapon accidently discharged, fatally injuring SP4 Diefenbach.
