THE WALL OF FACES

When I was in middle school I wore a Vietnam POW*MIA bracelet with 1 Lt. Patrick Curran’s name on it and his MIA date of 9-29-69. I never took it off until I graduated college, more than 9 years later. By that time it was so thin it was cutting my arm. During that period I wrote a letter to his wife and received a lovely letter back. I was heartbroken to learn 1Lt. Curran had a little girl that probably wasn’t ever going to see her father. His wife missed him so much and was so frightened of what might have happened to him. But she kept hoping and believing he’d come home. I felt as long as I wore my bracelet, he was safe.
I still have my bracelet. I have a rubbing of his name from The Wall as well. As a coincidence, I am now married to a Vietnam vet, who despite being shot done, did come home. I feel lucky to have loved 2 VV in my lifetime!!!

My grandfather has recently passed of which going through his jewelry I found a bracelet that he wore for the longest time with the name of Maj. Patrick Curran, with the feeling of confusion I went to look him up and found out so much I'm glad to know you've been found and laid to rest but just as my grandfather honored you I will continue to do it for him may you rest in peace.

I remember that fateful night that you and Major Lono launched from Danang on your mission. When they declared you overdue and missing it was a sickening feeling. It was many years before you were finally able to come home but even then the feeling didn't go away. I have thought of you both many times and your sacrifice is not forgotten. Semper Fi Sir.

Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. Thank you for stepping up and answering your country's call. Rest easy knowing you will never be forgotten.

Dear Major Patrick Curran,
Thank you for your service as a Naval Flight Officer. I am glad you were identified in 2001. Welcome Home. Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day. Happy St. Pat's. It is so important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
