POW/MIA Bracelet

1970, I was only 15 when my father, Antonio Cruz of Arecibo, PR also a soldier of WWII, gave me your bracelet. We watched on TV when the POWs came home, waiting for you to step off the plane. I wore your bracelet until November 4, 2010. That one day I forgot to put it back on, I never saw it again. I pray for your family and you, when it is my turn to leave this earth and I hope my Dad and will meet you.

do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Carlos, I remember...

I remember when you and Carole were dating...you were so cute, holding hands, giggling, truly in love. I remember you and Carole dressing up to go out, holding hands leaving from Aunt Margaret's. You 2 looked so beautiful all dressed up. I remember going to your wedding. How enchanting it was--2 people so in love and not afraid to show it. I thought this is my Cinderella and Prince Charming, and I secretly wished I could be that lucky to find what you 2 had. I remember how sad Aunt Margaret was when you were posted to Michigan. And I remember how excited she was when there were visits from you. I remember when you came to our house to tell us good-bye before you left for Vietnam. I remember some of the stories you told, and I remember how much your girls loved you---they were all over you and you were such a good hands-on dad. I remember a warm smile, a sweet man, a tender soul, and you have been missed (and still missed) by all who loved you. God's blessings to you for what you gave up to serve. I will always remember.

Hero

I knew your brother Eladio and family and your parents. I remember the day they knew of your MIA status. Prayers went up for you and your crew. To this day I’m proud of your bravery and ultimate sacrifice. Thank you and God bless.
