"GOD, COUNTRY, NOTRE DAME"

Kelly Cook entered the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, with the Class of 1944. He departed ND in 1943 to serve in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII and flew B-24 Liberators in the Mediterranean Theater. After the war, he returned to ND to earn his degree. He also served in the Air National Guard and was recalled to active duty to fly combat missions during the Korean War. He remained on active duty and was an Instructor at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He volunteered for overseas combat duty in Southeast Asia and received an assignment with the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing. While piloting an F-4C Phantom jet aircraft over North Vietnam, he and his "back seater" / WSO, James Crew, were reported missing in action.
A "friend of Notre Dame" completed research on Notre Dame men who died or are MIA in Southeast Asia from the Vietnam War and those who died while on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam era. Appropriately, the researcher included MIA Col. Kelly Francis Cook. That information is on the ND 1969 blogspot at this link/URL:
