Kelly Cook, a legend
Kelly was a childhood friend of my father, Carl T. Oder. My sisters and I grew up often hearing his name. My father thought he was brilliant. He encouraged my dad to play basketball. My dad helped him study Latin and he eventually took Latin himself. My dad was heartbroken when Kelly went MIA. Occasionally we would run into Kelly’s sister here in Lexington, KY. I can’t remember her name, but she never married. The last time we saw Miss Cook was at my father’s visitation in 1997. We really just wanted the Cook family to know what a wonderful influence Kelly was to our dad, a shy farm boy he took under his wing. From the Oder sisters, Pat Sloan, Cecelia Adams, and Mary Jo Smith
