Photocopied military issue, U.S. Navy & U.S. Marine Corps Presidential Unit Citation award citation dedicated to U.S. Navy Aviation Ordnanceman, Petty Officer Second Class (AO2) Clayton Mitch Blankenship, U.S. Navy Airman (AN) Daniel Parks Cherry, U.S. Navy Airman (AN) Robert W. Haakenson, Jr., U.S. Navy Airman Apprentice (AA) Robert Allen Yankoski, and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Michael Sargent Bixel. According to the text of the award citation, the U.S. Navy & U.S. Marine Corps Presidential Unit Citation was thusly awarded to, "USS MIDWAY (CVA-41) / and / ATTACK CARRIER AIR WING FIVE (CVW-5) / For extraordinary heroism and outstanding performance of duty in action against enemy forces in Southeast Asia from 30 April 1972 to 9 February 1973". The citation narrative further notes that, "By their excellent teamwork, dedication, and sustained supe-rior [sic] performance, the officers and men of MIDWAY and Attack Carrier Air Wing FIVE reflected great credit upon themselves and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service." The artifact was left at The Wall along with a printed note (VIVE (832)) by an anonymous U.S. Navy & Vietnam veteran between February - April 1985.

AT THE UPPER, CENTER EDGE OF THE OBVERSE OBJECT SURFACE, THE AWARD CITATION BEARS A SEAL OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES (I.E. THE COAT OF ARMS OF THE UNITED STATES COMPRISED OF A SHIELD IN CHIEF BEARING NO STARS OVER A FIELD WITH STRIPES. THE SUPPORTER OF THE SHIELD IS AN AMERICAN EAGLE WITH WINGS OUTSTRETCHED AND FACING TO THE PROPER RIGHT-HAND SIDE. THE EAGLE CLUTCHES A BUNDLE OF THIRTEEN (13) ARROWS IN ITS LEFT TALON WHILE THE RIGHT TALON CLUTCHES AN OLIVE BRANCH, WHILE OVERHEAD A GLORY CONTAINING THIRTEEN (13) STARS SURMOUNTS ALL) PRINTED IN BLACK INK. THE AWARD CITATION CONSISTS OF THE HEADING, "BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND AS COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES, I HAVE TODAY AWARDED" PRINTED IN BLACK INK AND BLOCK SCRIPT ABOVE THE AWARD DESIGNATION, "THE PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION (NAVY) / FOR EXTRAORDINARY HEROISM TO / USS MIDWAY (CVA-41) / AND / ATTACK CARRIER AIR WING FIVE (CVW-5)" SIMILARLY PRINTED IN BLACK INK AND BLOCK SCRIPT/ARABIC NUMERALS IN FIVE (5) SEPARATE LINES. Text of the photocopied, printed inscriptions upon the obverse object surface is transcribed in full, as follows: "By virtue of the authority vested in me as President of the United States and as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, I have today awarded / THE PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION (NAVY) / FOR EXTRAORDINARY HEROISM TO / USS MIDWAY (CVA-41) / and / ATTACK CARRIER AIR WING FIVE (CVW-5) / For extraordinary heroism and outstanding performance of duty in action against enemy forces in Southeast Asia from 30 April 1972 to 9 February 1973. / During this crucial period of the Vietnam conflict, USS MIDWAY and embarked Attack Carrier Air Wing FIVE carried out dev-astating [sic] aerial attacks against enemy installations, transportation, and lines of communications in the face of extremely heavy opposition includ-ing [sic] multi-calibre antiaircraft artillery fire and surface-to-air missiles. / Displaying superb airmanship and unwavering courage, MIDWAY/CVW-5 pilots played a significant role in lifting the prolonged sieges at An Loc, Kontum, and Quang Tri and in carrying out the concentrated aerial strikes against the enemy's industrial heartland which eventually resulted in a cease-fire. / By their excellent teamwork, dedication, and sustained supe-rior [sic] performance, the officers and men of MIDWAY and Attack Carrier Air Wing FIVE reflected great credit upon themselves and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. / Richard Nixon [handwritten signature]"
