What a great young man he was.
I had the great honor of staying with Steve and his most wonderful parents Will and Gertrude Colopy. I really admired him, and was staggered by hearing of his death, especially so violently. The searing beauty of the bugle playing taps in that silent air outdoors at his funeral is still a strong memory.
Of course it was wonderful also to have had the opportunity to meet his sisters Elizabeth (and also Rose briefly), and his brother Jim. One day I hope to have the opportunity to visit his grave.

Brother Stephen
along with our brother Stephen Lynn Colopy, another young man was killed, James Leroy Russell of Anson, TX. The armored vehicle hit a mine and their bodies burned for two days before they realized their remains were inside.

The Three Muskeeters
Steve was our youngest brother. He had 4 sister and one brother, Growing up on the family farm. His dream was to carry on the family farm with his brother when he returned from the killing fields of Viet Nam. This picture is of Steve with his sisters Rose and Betty, they were always called "The Three Muskteers". Our lives were forever changed. We have kept his memory alive with stories and family gatherings. Forever in our hearts.

I am just learning about Stephen.
I guess he was my first cousin twice removed. My natural grandmother was born a Colopy. It saddens me that today people are still being killed in armor vehicles. I hope one day men will no longer be killing each other because of politics.
