Final Mission of LTC Edwin P. Anderson Jr.
On April 8, 1969, a U.S Air Force Douglas EB-66B Destroyer (#53-0498) electronic reconnaissance plane from the 42nd Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron, 355th Tactical Fighter Wing, crashed shortly after takeoff from Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base and killed the three crewmen aboard. According to witnesses’ reports, the Destroyer twin-engine jet failed to gain altitude after leaving the runway and hit an open paddy field about a mile and a half from the airstrip and burst into flames. The three lost crewmen included navigator LTC Edwin P. Anderson Jr., Electronics Warfare Officer (EWO) CAPT Joseph M. Orlowski, and pilot LTC James E. Ricketts. Remembering An American Hero
Dear LTC Edwin P Anderson Jr, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
