do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

Think of you often
I shall never forget November 4, 1968. You were the Forward Observer in C Company and I was the FO in D company patrolling in the Tay Ninh province. Caught in an ambush, you and two others , a platoon sergeant and a medic fell along with the wounded. I moved up and took your place. It was sad to watch you three loaded into the dust off chopper. Thank you for your service.

From a fellow Redleg
Benny and I were classmates at Fort Sill’s Artillery Officer Candidate School (Class 36A-67).
I did not learn of Benny’s death until after my own tour ended in 1969.
I’ve had 51 more years on the planet than Benny.
This disparity brings the tragedy of war home to me in yet another way this night before Memorial Day.

THANK YOU
Dear Lt Benny Clayton,
Thank you for your service as a Field Artillery Unit Commander. Say hi to my grandfather, his name was Benny too. December has begun, along with all the preparations. It is so important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
