The Jamey and 3 Buddies Photo

This photo was taken in October of 1968 at Lai Khe, the battalion base camp during a two-day stand-down for maintenance on the APCs. This was the only time we were ever there. Lai Khe was located in the middle of a rubber plantation. Left to right: Jamey, second platoon leader. Then Lt. Pugh, first platoon leader. Third, Lt.
James Bane, third platoon leader. On the far right, Lt. Edwards, the company Forward Observer. We were cleaning our M16s and joking around. You see
parts to disassembled M16s on the table. Jamey appears to be holding two M16
components: the buffer and the buffer spring. [To me, the photo shows
four of America’s finest, who were making the best of the situation they found
themselves in. Jamey packed a lot of living experiences into his nearly 22-year-old life. He died living his dream—his grateful cousin, Jim Buffington.]

I Served with LT. Clark on May 27th, 1969

I had the honor of serving with LT. Clark and was with him on May 27th, 1969. I was commander of Track 63. When we came on-line to lay down suppressive fire, I looked at LT. Clark's track to guide on as we moved forward. As we lay down fire with our 50 Cal. and M-60 machine guns, I looked over at LT. Clark at the exact moment he was mortally wounded.

It was my understanding that LT Clark was suppose to leave on R&R that very morning to see his wife in Hawaii. But, when he found out how dire the situation was, and we were called upon for the mission, he made the decision to stay and fight with his men.

Not one day has passed since May 27th,1969 that LT. Clark and what happened that dark day has not been in my thoughts. His courage and commitment to duty has been a constant reminder in my life when times get tough.
I could have not asked for a more confident leader than LT. Clark. I will be forever grateful for his willingness to share his knowledge with me. I admired the firm, yet fare way he treated me and his troops. He was a great man.

Again, it was a great honor to have severed with LT. James W. Clark.
