THANK YOU

Dear Capt. Vandiver Childs, Sir,

We will never be able to thank you enough for your courageous, unselfish sacrifice to our country. You were taken from your family much too early. We will never forget your service and your sacrifice.

"If you are able, save for them a place inside of you...and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go...Be not ashamed to say you loved them...Take what they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own...And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind..." -- Capt. Michael O'Donnell

Vandiver L Childs III

Vandiver:
I met you the day you got your wings, Enid, Ok, I believe. Your wife pinned your wings on and no one from your family was there for the event, so I snapped a couple of shots of your wife pinning your wings on. My brother was Capt. Harry Swanson who had gone through training with you. He thought the world of you. You'll see him again, at some time, in "the wild blue yonder." God bless and keep you.
