Thoughts from a six year old neighbor
I was six years old and lived across the street and down on Elm Street where Lenny lived. We knew the family and attended church together and my Dad was the pastor. I remember the day my mom received the call from Doris Chesley informing us of Lenny’s loss. I had the cookie jar out and was trying to get her attention to see if I could have a cookie. As I became aware of the conversation, I slowly returned the cookie jar to its place and went away to think about a neighbor that would never come home and a grieving family.

Lenny Corpsman
I’m from Uxbridge Massachusetts, Lenny lived in the north end. He’s a few years older than me and I didn’t know him, but I knew his mom. After he was killed, my mom wrote a story about him and she was a writer for a newspaper and independent writer as well. I remember Mrs. Chesley coming up to the house, and how hard it was for her. I’ve never forgotten him and I have visited him in his resting place which is Prospect Hill Cemetery in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. RIP

A "Brother" by service
I grew up at the end of a field behind Lenny's house. I knew him casually. I came home from Vietnam in 1966 having served in the US Army.
I visit Lenny's gravesite almost daily as I walk the cemetery often. I noticed his service marker was sinking and asked the caretaker Harry to raise it which he did. I was not a hero like Lenny but feel a connection as we bot served. I knew his mom as she participated in our parades and school visitations as a Gold Star Mother. When I read the inscription on the gravestone I see his deep faith in God and hope that all veterans go to a special place in Heaven. Lenny, a slow hand salute to you, a true hero!
