THANK YOU

Dear PFC Rueben Chavez,
Thank you for your service as an Indirect Fire Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry. Your 52nd anniversary is soon, sigh. It is Veterans' Day. Thank you for your service. This is the month that we remember all those who have passed-on. We remember you. It is so important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Ruben Garza Chavez, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Semper Fi

I never got to know Ruben since I was a kid when he was KIA. I grew up in Robstown and our families went to the same church. I knew that he was killed in Vietnam but not much more until the book We were Soldiers came out and he is listed in it. It was later made into a movie with Mel Gibson. Ruben was with C co. 2/7 and fought at LZ X-ray and was killed at LZ Albany during an ambush by the NVA that killed 150 of his brothers. C co. was hit the worst that day with 90% casualty rate. I have met some of the survivors of that battle and some of them were friends of Ruben and they told me that they remember him every day. Semper Fi Ruben
