Local Marine War Victim

AUGUSTA - Word has been received here of the death of Cpl. Norman Chavarie, 19, U.S. Marine Corps, Co. D 9th Battalion, in South Vietnam on July 21.
Cpl. Chavarie, who was killed in action, was on his third tour of duty there at the time of his death.
He was born in Augusta August 16, 1949, the son of Mrs. Roland Toulouse Chavarie, and the late Raymond Chavarie. He was a communicant of St. Augustin Catholic Church. He had been employed by Lipman Poultry Co. and prior to his enlistment in the Marine Corps had been employed by Bates Manufacturing Co., Edwards Division.
Survivors include his grandmother, Mrs. Florida Chavarie of Augusta; his mother of Augusta; three brothers, Ensign Raymond Chavarie, U.S. Navy, Great Lakes, Ill., David and Andrew Chavarie both of Augusta; a sister Mrs. Margaret Tracy of Augusta; also a niece, a nephew and several aunts and uncles and cousins.
A high requiem Mass wiil be sung Saturday morning at 11:15 at St. Augustin Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Augustin Cemetery.
