Elias was the first soldier that I met when I set foot in Germany in Jan 1961. We were together in the Heavy Weapons Platoon, Co D, 2nd BG, 4th Inf. in Bamberg. Three years later we were both SGTs and Sqd ldrs. Elias was a good friend, leader and soldier. He was well respected and always steadfast. I left Germany and he stayed for a little longer. I never saw him again. I found out about his passing two years later. I felt deeply touched because Elias died on my birthday. He is now part of a very elite group of heroes who shall never be forgotten. So long friend, I will see you Up There some day. Thanks for what you did for out country.
