Lost Promises
I was born Erike Michael Alvarez in March of 1968. On Fathers day 1992, as a US Marine stationed in Quantico Virginia, I visited the Wall for the first time. After reading many of the letters left by children of the fallen, I made a pencil/paper copy of this mans name not sure if he was really related to me.
I always knew my fathers name was Michael Alvarez but he had never been a part of my life. I later found out that my biological father was another Michael Alvarez. However, for me Michael Byron Alvarez will always represent the father I never had. A young man, sent away, who never realized the dreams of his youth. I honor this man and, in his memory, consider all the things that ended for us in 1968. For me, the loss of knowing my father as a child. For Michael....loss of life itself!! My prayers are with you Michael Byron Alvarez.
