One of the finest men I've ever met
It's been 46 years and I remember Peter with crystal clarity. His English/Spanish dictionary, smile, genuine warmth, and deep pride for his wife and baby. Each day he would ask me to grill him on the pronunciation of ten new words. I told him I was afraid he would go back to his family with a Boston accent. His death on that a night patrol affected every member of our platoon deeply, for we all truly believed he was one of the finest men we knew. He as been in my thoughts every Memorial Day or nearly half a century. Pete, I salute you.

I think of you so often
Dear Stan, I thought u would be gone for just a moment. I would be so upset when u spilled a bowl of spaghetti upside down on our rug. If we could just have u back, and your family could have u back, I wouldn't complain if u spilled a hundred bowls of spaghetti on the rug. Miss the get togethers we had. Thanks for loving my sour dough bread and spaghetti. Thank you so much for your sacrifice. I am 67 now, I was 18 then. I traced your name on the wall in California and sent a copy to Dave, he said he really appreciated it. Now u know he did as he is not emotional at all. That was when I was 45. I was inconsolable at the wall as were many others. I just can't tell u how much we both were devastated when you didn't come home. Looking forward to making it to heaven to see you again. Miss u so much. Think of you so often. With much love. Jeanne
