Always remember

I remember the day that you were killed. I lifted your head and you looked into my eyes as if to say, what happened? That look I see often.

Victim of a Racially motivated hate crime

Pfc Daniel "Willie" Williams Jr. was maliciously shot and killed by Pfc. John Remlinger in the evening of 11/12/1969. Place: Carter's bunk area in Day Tieng, South Vietnam. He was a member of the First Platoon "Dirty Thirty", Brave Company, 121st Signal Battalion, First Infantry Division. Remlinger, part of the same platoon, used a .38 caliber snub-nose special at point blank range, below the eye, just near the nose. While Willie lay bleeding, Remlinger mumbles racial slurs, spits, and waves his thirty-eight in the air. Later the MPs show up and cart Remlinger away. Willie was armed with a "UNLOADED" M-16 rifle. Everyone as witness saw and knew an empty M-16 is no match to a LOADED 38. They both exchanged words, but Remlinger (from California) had a deep hatred for the blacks. He often told me how much he hated them. I was there that night when Willie was shot dead for no good reason other than the color of his skin.

Willie, I have never stopped thinking of you. You are a part of my life. I never forget. You are the lucky one. GOD BLESS and KEEP YOU. Always!
