Ground Casualty
SGT Dave S. Carruth Jr. was Single-Engine Airplane Maintenance Chief serving with the 71st Evacuation Hospital, 67th Medical Group, 44th Medical Brigade, U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam. Carruth worked in the aircraft maintenance hangar at Pleiku, RVN, where he was responsible for maintaining Brigade fixed-wing aircraft, particularly the U-1A Otter, which was used for patient evacuation and medical cargo transport. On August 7, 1970, Carruth went on sick call at Pleiku and was admitted at 5:30 PM to the 71st Evacuation Hospital for treatment of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis. While undergoing treatment, his condition failed to improve and was downgraded to seriously ill on August 20th. Despite the best efforts at managing his illness, he expired August 29, 1970, from a number of conditions, including unresponsive hemorrhage, peritonitis, renal failure, and empyema. Scott, 28, was an eight-year Army veteran. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

Friendship
Although the years have past I have never forgotten my friend. We were initially bunk mates at Quartermaster school Ft Lee, Virginia. I saw Dave again later when we were both assigned to Camp Drake, Japan and the 249th General Hospital. We socially enjoyed each other company and did so until my enlistment ended in 1968.
May my friend R.I.P. Seeing his name on the wall only enhance my memory of him and our friendship.

honoring you...
Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. While all deaths in Vietnam are tragic that you died just ten days after your 28th birthday is especially so. May you rest in eternal peace.

THANK YOU
Dear Sgt Carruth,
I hope your photo is put here because this is a wall of faces and yours is missing. Thank you for your service as a Single-Engine Airplane Maintenance Chief. You are on the same panel as Mike Smith. Say hi to him in heaven. Today we celebrate Columbus Day, and we remember those of you who served. It is important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
