Silver Star Medal Award

Major Donald Gene Carr was awarded the Silver Star Medal for his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action. He served as Special Forces Qualified Infantry Unit Commander and was assigned to MLT 3, TF-1 AE, MACV-SOG, 5TH SF GROUP.

According to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) website at the below link/URL, the remains of former MIA Major Donald Gene Carr, U.S. Army, U.S. Special Forces were accounted for on 4 September 2015:

MIA Pilot & Observer Identified - DPAA News Release (2017)

The below link/URL from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) is the Press Release announcing the positive identification of Vietnam War MIAs USAF Capt. Daniel Thomas (pilot, OV-10A) and his observer, USA MAJ Donald Carr. The two were missing since 6 July 1971 when the OV-10 went missing over central Laos.
