Ground Casualty
On February 18, 1968, Tan Son Nhut Air Base near Saigon in Gia Dinh Province, RVN, was hit by about 100 enemy 122mm rocket and mortar rounds, destroying four aircraft and killing three U.S. airmen and wounding over 60. The base chapel was destroyed by a direct rocket hit. A control tower, a hangar, and several other buildings also were damaged. Two rounds hit one of the runways, but the damage was quickly repaired and the runway reopened. The three USAF personnel killed in the attack included SGT Bruce L. Carey, SGT Richard C. Ramsey, and SGT Alan W. Willard. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

I Remember...
I had the honor of working with Bruce at tan Son Nhut with the 1876 Comm Sq. It was a shock to all of us that knew him when he was killed.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear SGT Bruce Leo Carey, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
