We Served Together a Long Time Ago

Matthew - I was your Platoon Leader for your last month in-country - Blackfoot Platoon, Bravo Company, 2 of the 8th, 1st Cavalry Division. We were holding an LZ to extract Alpha Company when we were hit with mortars and incoming fire. I didn't find out until later that you had been Killed In Action. 11 others of us, including me were wounded that morning. It was not a good day to be an Eager Arms soldier.

do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Thanks

Dear PFC Matthew Canfield,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry. I have family near Bristol, sigh. It is another autumn, and time has passed since this war. It is important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Brief encounter

We briefly crossed paths. I remember him because he had the same name as a friend of mine. We did have a good chat. Any information on the location of his interment?
