We Will Remember

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Thanks for your service as a Navigator. As another summer comes to an end, it is important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Final Mission of CAPT Jerry A. Campaigne

On April 8, 1963, pilot CAPT Andrew C. Mitchell and navigator CAPT Jerry A. Campaigne plus a Vietnamese Air Force observer were killed when their RB-26L (#44-35525) aircraft crashed into a mountain approximately 33 miles northwest of Pleiku, Kontum Province, RVN. They were conducting a combat support mission and inbound to the target on a strafing pass when the left wing came off due to unknown causes. They were part of the Farm Gate program, an American air force mission in Vietnam specifically designed to counter guerrilla warfare. CAPT Mitchell had 14 years of service at his loss. He was serving with Detachment 2A (temporary duty from the 6th Tactical Fighter Squadron), 1st Air Commando Group, 2nd Air Division, 13th Air Force, flying out of Bien Hoa AB. (Note: According to research, the wing-loss phenomenon occurred numerous times with the old B-26 aircraft which was later attributed to wing spar fatigue.) [Taken from togetherweserved.com]
