Remembering An American Hero

Dear WO Charles L Callahan III, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

Someone Not Forgotten

I remember Larry's convertible that needed white gasoline. Graduated with him and worked with Mike Moriarty and Larry at Almacs. The smile in the photo is characteristically what everyone saw each day. I went skiing with him and some others at some ridge in Massachusetts. On a dare from Larry, I yelled out something nasty to a couple coming out of a football game and quickly drove away but caught up in traffic. Larry nudged the lever into neutral. I didn't notice. My engine revved but the car went nowhere when the light changed. I saw someone coming up behind me. Larry put the lever into drive. The guy was trying to get inside. In desperation I drove on a sidewalk to avoid being pummeled. Larry and Mike could not stop laughing. Larry calmly said that no one in their right mind would actually take a dare like that. That what I remember.

Big Brother

Miss my big brother, Larry. He was a great guy with a big heart and lots of courage and determination. With both of our parents gone now, I really feel the void he left when he left us back in '68. If you knew him, please leave a message.

To Put A Face With A Name

Dear Charles, to honor your memory and the sacrifice you made for our country I want to make sure your photo will be displayed on your birthday each and every year when the Education Center is completed, so it is with great pride and humility that I post this remembrance and picture of you. You are not forgotten and remain in the hearts of many all these years later. You have been designated to be one of God's special angels, along with the love of my life, who also sacrificed his life during this war 45 years ago. God Bless You, Charles, for being who you were and for all you did--we live in freedom to this day thanks to heroes like you.
