Remembering a friend

Hugh (Bobo) Caldwell was a friend. A kid I went to grade school on up with. When we were all going in the Army, I ran in to Bobo at Randy's Hamburger joint at Warren and Evergreen in Detroit. We talked and wished each other luck and promised to get together after our service was over. Tragically, Hugh never made it home. I remember seeing his picture in the local paper and thinking how sad I was. Recently, the traveling Viet Nam memorial came through Cape Coral, Fl and I visited and saw Hugh's name. I cried.
Someone should know, Hugh was a gentle soul and I was his friend. I am a grandfather now, something he never got to be. Thank you Bobo for your sacrifice and your friendship. You are not forgotten.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 Hugh Pinson Caldwell Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
