Final Mission of PVT William C. Allen Jr.
On June 24, 1967, elements of H Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division were patrolling an area one mile northwest of Cam Lo village in Quang Tri Province, RVN, when a Claymore mine was triggered. The mine reportedly was rigged with a trip wire. The blast killed rifleman PVT William C. Allen Jr., who suffered multiple fragmentation wounds to the entire body. Four other Marines were wounded.
