Remembering Tom

It has been 54 years. I was an 18 year old medic...Tom was the old Sergeant. I was assigned to the aid station and was stunned when they brought Tom in off the Dustoff. I am 73, Tom remains 21. SGM ( Ret) Lou Palm.

Ground Casualty

During 1971, the only major U.S. ground combat unit in Military Region II was the 173rd Airborne Brigade. The "Sky Soldiers" stood vigil over National Route QL-19 and Binh Dinh Province’s western approaches; however, their tenure as the longest serving U.S. Army ground combat brigade in Vietnam was ending. Redeployment activities began in April, and by August the last elements would return to the United States. During the drawdown period, the 173rd conducted pacification efforts in collaboration with Republic of Vietnam army units. On May 9, 1971, an accidental shooting incident claimed the life of Sky Soldier at a day laager site 13 kilometers (8.7 miles) northwest of Phu My city. A trooper was reportedly loading a .45 caliber pistol when the weapon inadvertently fired. The errant round struck SP4 Thomas P. Cadieux in the left-center chest. He was admitted to the Battalion Aid Station where he later expired. An Army volunteer and combat veteran, Cadieux was 21 years old. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

Honoring my Great Uncle

I am honored to be your great nephew. I have heard many stories about how much of an amazing and caring person you were. You were a hero to many, especially the soldier you saved from drowning while under enemy fire. I know my grandma was very proud of you. I wish I could have gotten to meet you.

My Cousin; My Hero

We never met. Our St Louis family's trips to Berwyn did not stop at La Grange. But two years ago I came to "The Wall" in Perryville, MO and prayed at your name. It was behind the clouds. I saluted you. Sargeant, Sky Soldier and cousin. I'll see you in Heaven.
