Cpl. Allen, a 1967 graduate of Overbrook High School, died in Vietnam February 26 of wounds inflicted by a land mine explosion. The Defense Department notified his parents, but delayed the normal public report.
Drafted in August, 1967, he had been in Vietnam only two months.
"Don't worry," Cpl. Allen wrote his parents shortly before his death, "I'm on the alert all the time. It's not bad where we're stationed now, but we'll be moving pretty soon."
Burial will be in the Philadelphia National Cemetery, Haines st. and Limekiln pike.
Surviving besides his parents are four brothers, Ernest, 4; Daniel, 12; Joseph, 25 and David, 26, and four sisters, Catherine, 1, Linda, 15, Jeannie Marie, 17, and Thomesina, 21.

Heroes are made when they make a choice. You, dear soldier, made a choice to sacrifice all you loved to insure the future of the Land of the Free. You paid the price that saved other’s lives. The choice to protect your country was an admirable deed that demands undying appreciation for those whose lives you saved. You sir, are a hero. God bless you.
