Just checking in
Hey buddy, it's Rob (actually Bob back then) thought I'd drop you a line. I turned 77 four days ago....never thought I'd see 50 much less 70! Currently living in SC and doing the best I can. Have three grand kid (Kylie 12, Ethan 4 1/2 and Colton will be 2 next month. I talk to your picture (right above my computer) at least once everyday, hope you hear me sometimes. Kylie is the kindest, sweetest person I've ever next to you. I tell her all about you often and she's seen all your pictures and heard all our stories. You might not know this but you were the FIRST person to be KIND to me and really TRUST me. What's left of our once wonderful Republic could use about 1 million Randy Butlers! I'm going to try and make contact with Dick soon, haven't talked with him in 10 or 11 years. Very sorry to hear that Lexie passed, she's probably hanging out with you right now!! It really bothers me that you were cheated out of falling in love, getting married and having kids. You would have been a GREAT father! RIP my friend and remember how loved you were and are today. I'll check in again later!

honoring you...
Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. The remembrances from your sister Lexie, friends, and fellow soldiers attest to their love and respect for you. As long as you are remembered you will always be with us.

My Personal HERO
Hey man it's me. Just discovered this site and knowing you read it at least once a day, thought I'd drop you a note. The last ltr I got from you (I was still stationed in WGer) was when you were recovering from being "shot in the ass"! In your letter you were ragging on me for telling you (in my last letter) to keep a low profile so you won't get "shot in the ass"! I was home on leave for the holidays and Dick calls me up early one morning and said "Randy's MIA", thought the basturd was joking until the next day when we heard your remains had been recovered! I was crushed, piss'd to the max and angry at everything. I loved you man! Still do and think of you all the time. I helped carry you into your service and then back to the grave site (everything was a blur, nothing was real) thankfully Dick was there, he steadied many of us. During the next week or so I tried to comfort your folks & Lexie but I'd lose it first & we'd both end up sitting in the car crying our hearts out. I ended up spending 20years in & then 24 more as a DOD consultant (more later). I hope you got the CD (Stones 12x5) I lefy by your marker about 10 yrs ago it's the same one you and Dick and I used to listen to parked at Tripp's, drinking beer & CC malt liquor. Save me a place, we have lots to catch-up on.

Going Away Party
We had the going away to war party for you at our house because being my brother Dick's best friend you were part of our family. So many people came. I didn't understand it all really because I was only 5. But I do remember you were really nice to me always. My family has missed you every day Randy.
