Ground Casualty

FSB Hawk Hill (Hill 29) was a 23rd Infantry Division (Americal) fire support base located 12 kilometers (7.2 miles) northwest of Tam Ky in Quang Tin Province, RVN. In December 1970, an Americal medic from Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC), 1st Infantry, 196th Infantry Brigade, PFC Dennis L. Butler, went on sick call at Hawk Hill. He was medically evacuated to the 27th Surgical Hospital in Chu Lai on December 7th for treatment of pulmonary edema and pneumonia. Despite the best efforts at managing his illness, Butler expired January 5, 1971, from congestive heart failure. He was 20 years old. Butler was posthumously promoted to Corporal.
