In remembrance of the Cousin

Though you passed 4 months before I was born I feel like I know you from the stories are family members have told. You may be gone but never forgotten. Rest in Peace cousin and thank you for your service.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL Allen Leroy Butler, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

For CPL Allen Leroy BUTLER, USMC...another of Pittsburgh's bravest of heroes, who gave his life!!!!!

He loved us so.
Every day, in a hundred ways, he told us so.
In honesty, in affection, he told us so.
He loved us so.
Every day, in a hundred ways, he showed us so.
With loyalty and bravery, he showed us so.
He was our defender, and he kept us free!
He took an oath to guard us, and fought for liberty!
He loved us so, and we should know.
For we loved him so.
Corporal Butler, you have given all that mortality can give in the defense of our America. You had been there and done that! You were one brave man who did brave deeds to defend liberty everywhere. I believe that Jill Corey, whom Avonmore (her home town) and Pittsburgh (where she got her start) can claim as one of their own, and whom I admire greatly as one of my three top favorite songbirds (along with Julie Andrews, who came from England, and Dusty Springfield, also from England, but she passed on some years ago, in 1999), would be very proud of your service to our country. Well done, Corporal! Be thou at peace!

To Put A Face With A Name

Allen, thanks to your good friend and with whom you served, Jerry Billiter, who provided me with a photo that was taken on a ship on your way to Vietnam with BLT 326, it is with great humility, pride and honor that I post this remembrance for you and upload your photo so that your memory and the sacrifice you made for our country will never be forgotten and to ensure your photo will be displayed on your birthday each and every year when the Education Center is completed. You are not forgotten and remain in the hearts of many all these years later. You have been designated to be one of God's special angels, with the love of my life who also sacrificed his life in the same month as you. You and I were from the same city, Pittsburgh, but did not know each other. God Bless You, Allen, for being who you were and for all you did--we live in freedom to this day thanks to heroes like you.
