just thinking..

Did not know Mike very long. Seems like he enlisted soon after we met. I remember a tall sweet guy. He wrote me a few times from Viet Nam. I wish I still had them.

Mike Allen

Mike Allen was a classmate friend of mine at Druid Hills High School - was a great, funny guy. We used to skip Biology class and walk to the Dairy Queen on N. Decatur Rd. for lunch - we only got caught by the principal once. Rest in peace Mike and know that I appreciate your service during those days when returning soldiers were ridiculed instead of honored, you will not be forgotten...I will see you again one day my friend...

Larry Michael Allen

Mike and I share the same birthday. We were both born on July 20, only he was born 39 years before me. I had the privilege of traveling to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial this past week, and Mike was the Veteran I chose to write a short biography about and to rub his name.

While at first, Mike and I only had a birthday in common, after researching this remarkable man's life, I found that we are similar in many ways. For instance, his brother posted that he was not-so-hot of a driver, and well, I too am not the best behind the wheel. We both like the Beatles and I also, love to make people laugh.

I am deeply saddened that Mike was taken away at such a young age. However, I value his honor to our nation, and deeply appreciate his ultimate sacrifice.

Thank you Larry Michael Allen for everything you did for our country.
