A Best Friend

I met Ricky the summer of '61 when my USAF family moved in across the street and he rode his bike up to the curb and asked if I wanted to come out and play. We spent 2 yrs together every day, hiking the woods and coming of age, bike riding, swimming, talking about girls and learning to smoke. I moved back to Germany but we wrote constantly, and visited when I came stateside. Our last visit was just after he finished boot camp and we both knew he was going to Vietnam. If I saw him at the curb today, I'd still want to come out and play. RIP my best friend ever.
