I met you once.
Wilfred, I remember hearing from my mother of your untimely death back in 1967. My mom is your first cousin on your father's side. Your father and my grandfather were brothers. I remember meeting you while we lived in Massachusetts when You came to visit us with your dad when you were in high school. You made an immediate impression with me when I was only seven or eight years old. I wished that we could have had more time to know each other better. It was a very sad time when you passed away so young...your mom and dad were so angry and so distraught after your death. Our family had visited your mom and dad to comfort them and to try to understand how you could be taken away so quickly at age 19. As I grew older, you were in my thoughts often. I have located your name on the moving Vietnam War Memorial wall and the actual wall in Washington, D.C. Even though you may not have anymore immediate relatives living in Michigan, you still have your cousins in Masachusetts that do remember, honor and thank you for your service to protect at all cost our beautiful country. May you rest in peace until we meet again in heaven. Your cousin Linda Martin and family.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear CPL Wilfried Burck, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
