Final Mission of SP4 Raymond D. Burbage
At 1:00 AM on February 21, 1968, a convoy of Equipment Incorporated trucks, a U.S. company under government contract and driven by U.S. military drivers, was ambushed on Highway 316 near Thu Duc, eight miles east of Saigon in Gia Dinh Province, RVN. An unknown-size Viet Cong force fired B-40 rockets, killing two drivers and wounding five others. The two lost Americans were SP4 Raymond D. Burbage, an Ammunition Records Clerk from the 182nd Ordinance Detachment who volunteered to drive for the convoy, and SP4 John W. Kinney, an infantryman from Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC), 1st Logistical Command. Burbage was posthumously promoted to Sergeant. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org, vvmf.org, and Lessons Learned, Headquarters, 1st Logistical Command, Period Ending April 30, 1968]
