My Cousin The Hero

Dear Cousin David, September 17, 2016

This is Francine, I was 6yrs old and you came to our home all dressed in your Uniform, you where beyond handsome. Even tho I was young you always took time to be with me, holidays, birthdays and just to come and hang with my brothers and me. Your hugs where the best and you always said you would always make sure I would be safe and out of harms way.

That day you have announced to our family that you where being sent to Vietnam to help the other troops and this made you proud, it also made us proud. We had a wonderful dinner that my mom made and we all enjoyed it. You thank her and told her she was a wonderful person and Aunt. As you where leaving and receiving hugs and kisses from family members you looked at me and said how about a hug and ran up to you , you picked me up hugged me tightly and I said, please don't go and your reply was "I will return real soon".

Yes you did return but not the way you left us. It was the saddest time. At the funeral home I hugged your closed casket. Your mom and dad where beyond sadden to lose their son. As I got older I would visit Ciocia Bertha and Uncle Vince and we always talked about you.

Thank you for keeping me out of harms way.

Love you always and forever, my dear cousin.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL David John Budka, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
