Hey Uncle Steve!
It's been 50 years since I last saw you. Thanks for coming by and visiting with us before you shipped out. I'll never forget you tickling me awake, or the way you fixed my toy jeep. You were my favorite uncle.
I remember cousin Gene escorting you to Mangum, he had the most decorated uniform I'd ever seen. I remember the men that carried your casket, and gave you the 21 gun salute. I watched them fold the flag and give it to Grandma Bryant, and I managed to police up some brass from the honor guard.
I have your letters, that brass and the Dept. of the Navy correspondence to Grandma and Grandpa. I go through it, remembering you and them. I still miss you and wonder what you'd have been had you lived. I wonder where your girl is, too. I still remember her name.
Thank you for volunteering to protect liberty and freedom. You made a real difference to me. I'll never forget.
