Specialist Four John William Bruin, Served with the 173rd Assault Helicopter Company, 223rd Aviation Battalion, 17th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade, United States Army Vietnam.

I remember the day at Ft Rucker wrestling in the barracks, filling sandbags together in Dong Ha, RVN and I remember Hernandez returning from the days mission telling me your aircraft had crashed. We traveled far, I will always remember.

Specialist 4 John William Bruin was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroism and extraordinary achievement while engaged in aerial flight. He served as a Flight Qualified Aircraft Maintenance Apprentice and Helicopter Crewmember. He was assigned to the 173RD AHC, 223RD AVN BN, 17TH AVN GROUP, 1ST AVIATION BDE.
