Cousin

Bobby,
Miss your laugh and your incredible personality. I was only 10 years old when we got the news of your death. I was home for lunch from school. I cried walking back to school. My neighbor opened her door and asked what was wrong. I explained and she couldn’t believe my parents sent me back to school. That’s all I can remember that day. Until your funeral and the 21 gun salute. I miss you and honor you for saving lives. Not a day goes by without a thought of you.
Larry, thank you for sharing your touching story with me. For 40 years I wondered if Bob died alone. You my man gave me peace. I prayed that you would fine that same peace. May God Bless you, Amen

I was with you that day

It’s been fifty years , since that day,
Fifty years since those last moments of your life,
Fifty years since I cradled your limp body in my arms and listened to you labor for your last breaths.
I felt numb and helpless holding you in my arms, looking at your face as your life slipped away,
I still carry the guilt of being unable to keep you from that faith.
Fifty years since September 13 1969
Fifty years remembering those minutes we shared,
Fifty years of remembering you
