Ground Casualty
SP4 William E. Broughton was a Food Service Specialist serving with A Company, 815th Engineer Battalion, 35th Engineer Group, 18th Engineer Brigade, U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam Engineer Command. During 1970, the 815th Engineer Battalion worked on construction projects in Military Region II, including bunkers, aircraft revetments, and repairs to several airfields. Broughton followed his unit to each project location, feeding hungry engineers until he went on sick call on August 19, 1970, when he was admitted to 483rd U.S. Air Force Hospital at Cam Ranh Bay Air Base in Khanh Hoa Province, RVN, for treatment of pneumonia. Despite the best efforts of medical staff at managing his illness, Broughton expired the following day. He was 25 years old. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and “Engineers at War” by Adrian G. Traas]
