Ground Casualty

CPL Richard A. Brooks was an artilleryman serving with M Battery, 4th Battalion, 12th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. During the month of April 1968, the 4th Battalion provided general support to the 3rd Marine Division while it conducted operations along the demilitarized zone between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Brooks’ unit, M/4/12, was positioned 2000 yards west of Dong Ha in Quang Tri Province, RVN, sharing the location with L Battery, 4/12 and Headquarters Battery. Much of the time the battalion was occupied with improving their defensive perimeter. On April 25, 1968, Brooks sustained fragmentation wounds to the head and body after a grenade accidently detonated. He was fatally injured in the incident. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
