Classmate, Friend, Inspiration, Hero
I was priviliged to be one of Tom's classmates in USAF pilot training in 1969, at Laredo AFB, TX. He was a friend; not just to me, but to everyone who wanted him to be theirs - - and everyone fit that description. I cannot recall ever hearing him say an unkind word - - to, or about anyone. Skilled, kind, caring, serious - - but fun-loving when apropriate. A truly gifted pilot - - without question, the best in the school, and that included most of the instructors. I didn't know him in college, but I'm told he studied at night at Auburn University, in an orange flight suit while sitting in a one-man survival raft - - he was born to be a fighter pilot. He was the very rare UPT graduate who was selected for the F-105 "Thud". His life was too short, but he was an inspiration for all who knew him. I still think of him often, and he's still an example of how to live your life, for me. He was a quiet leader in life, I know he's flying "Angel Flight Lead" now.

Thank you for your service
My grandparents are buried next to Captain Zorn's grave in Waycross, so I have had occasion to visit his tombstone on many occasions over the past 35 years. Even as a child, I marveled at this young man who was so accomplished and gave his life for his country. Thank you for your service, sir.
