do not stand at my grave and weep......
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Ground Casualty
1LT Earl K. Ziegler was an administrative officer assigned to Headquarters, 1st Combined Action Group, Combined Action, III MAF. On January 22, 1969, he informed a Marine corporal by the name of Charles Eason that charges were being filed against him for disobeying orders regarding his 30-day leave. Angered by news, Eason and Ziegler exchanged further words over mail. Eason left and returned with an M-16 rifle to the mailroom where Ziegler was looking through some mailbags. He went behind the counter and told a clerk to move out of the way. Ziegler turned around and threw his hands up at which time Eason shot him with an automatic burst and followed him down with his weapon on automatic. CPL Eason was tried and convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to 50 years imprisonment. He won a new trial on appeal, was found guilty of the reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter, and was released in May 1974 after serving only five years. In December 1977, he was found dead inside a Pittsburgh home, having succumbed to carbon monoxide fumes he accidently inhaled from a space heater.
