Pictures On the Wall

As a boy in Belize in the 70s, I saw the army pictures of you gracing the walls of your two aunts who raised you. I never knew you personally as my cousin until seeing you lying in state at your funeral at the residence where you grew up. I admired your bravery, strength and humility from the stories told by your aunts. It would be an honor to know your family you left behind in Mississippi in the U.S. You are remembered as a Belizean legend, and the Belizean soldier who fought in Vietnam for America. In Belize you are honored always. May God bless your beloved soul.

Gone before I was born

The brother of my father that I never got a chance to meet. You were gone two years before I came into the family. My parents honored you. We all grew up knowing that you died in Vietnam War one day after my older twin brothers were born. Your name was given as one of their names, Calvin Young. So I can never forget my uncle I never met. I just learned that people in British Honduras back then were not believing your body was brought home because your casket was closed. Now that is a new not so pleasant memory of you... Anyone out there can shed some light?

honoring you.....

Remember to save for them a place inside of you, and save one backward glance when you are leaving, for the places they can no longer go...

Thank You

Dear SSgt Calvin Young, Thank you for your service as a Construction Engineering Supervisor. I researched you on the 55th anniversary of the start of your tour. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Lent has begun. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance, and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
