My best friend

John and I met on the ship going to Vietnam and became best friends until the time that he was transferred out of the 199th. We shared many good times together. Many nights we huddled under a shared poncho in the rain talking about family, friends and home. John always referred to us as "war buddies".

I think about John often and hoped that the rumors that we heard about his death after his transfer out of the unit were false. Only recently did I do research and found out that he indeed had been killed in action. That news hit me as hard as when I had first heard it. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Not forgotten

John, Although we never met, I just want you to know you are not forgotten. You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for what you believed in. Sleep well my friend, and thank you for protecting the freedoms we enjoy today.
Your sister left you a wonderful note, you must have been proud of her.

A Brother Never Forgotten

John Yeast, the son of Casimer and Katherine Yeast, of Edinboro PA. Graduated from General McLane High School in 1965. He was a very handsome young man, voted best looking in his senior class. He also participated in wrestling and football. Anyone who knew him liked him, his personality matched his good looks. He was a brother to Stanley, Edward and Cas Yeast, Shirley Brace, Berneice Mussett, Theresa Kuligowski and Betty Jane Riolo. You were taken from us at such a young age, not a day goes by that you are not thought of. You are sadly missed by all of us.
