I never knew

I never knew my Grandfather.
My mother never knew her father.
My Grandfather died serving for his country two months and four days after my Mother was born.
I never knew anything about my Grandfathers service in the Army until I came to this sight. I have actually been to the Wall and I remember seeing tears coming down my Moms face and my Grandmas face when they had found my Grandfather on the Wall, but I couldn't understand why. I was brought up to go against the military. But now since I am older I can can understand most of the terrorist and war situations. Now I have to thank my Grandfather for serving for the country that I live in. I don't know how it would be if I lived in another country, from what I hear I should be thankful that I have it so good. I have my Grandfather to thank for keeping me out of primiscuous situtions because I always felt honored to have his last name. Also because I didn't want to ruin a good name. Because he served for the best country that God ever created.
As I said before I never knew him but now that I know more than I did before I wish he was here so I could say thank you for giving me my mother and shake his hand. I always wanted a mentor but I never realized it would be my Grandfather that served in the Veitnam War. I also want to say how thankful that I am that he is not MIA.

sincerly,

Chani B.
